Welcome, welcome to another riveting episode of The Summer Jam 2: Beat The Heat! Come one, come all, for today, we have Australian atmospheric metal project Aquilus reveal their favorite records to listen to during the sweltering summer of their home country. Enjoy!
‘Not to sound like a cliche “black metaller”, but there isn’t much I like about summer, in the disgusting heat I can’t think or feel much passion for composing, I just long for the next cold smoky winter to come along and inspire me. It probably wouldn’t be so bad if I lived somewhere with milder summers, unlike where I live in Australia. But on a warm day or night with a cold drink, these tunes go down nicely.’
Kyuss – Blues for the Red Sun
Blistering baby. Also they play in the desert, and given the album title, need I say more?
King Parrot – Bite Your Head Off
Because summer is for taking the piss.
Anything by Santo & Johnny is great in the stink.
Macabre – Dahmer
Because it smells like Jeffrey’s corpses in summer heat.
The Doors – L.A. Woman
Or any other Doors album; they’re great for summer.
Damaged – Do Not Spit
Classic Aussie metal for sinking brews.
Blood Duster – Str8 Outta Northcote
Same as previous comment.
Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II
Alice In Chains – Dirt
Because it’s still a shit hot album.
Sepultura – Roots
More classic 90’s, tribal sounds are hot and heavy…
And that’s it! Thanks to Aquilus for being a part of this feature this year. If you’re not familiar with their particular brand of genre-spanning atmospheric metal, make sure to follow them on Facebook and check out their music on Bandcamp; it’s more than worth your time!
Come back next week for more The Summer Jam 2: Beat The Heat goodness! Until then, stay safe, and as always…
