With great sadness we must report that Adrenaline Mob bassist David Zablidowsky has died in a tragic bus accident. He was 38 years old.
The band’s RV was reportedly on the side of the road (I-75) due to a flat tire. A tractor-trailer struck the bus.
In addition to Zablidowsky, six other people are reported to be “banged up but OK.” This includes Adrenaline Mob’s sound man, the RV’s driver, drummer Jordan Cannata, vocalist Russell Allen (formerly of Symphony X), and guitarist Mike Orlando.
Reactions from Zablidowsky’s friends and fans have appeared throughout social media.
Former Adrenaline Mob (and Dream Theater) drummer Mike Portnoy tweeted “FUCK!!!!!!!! I just got off stage to about 50 texts…I am beyond devastated….I’ve been told my dear friend @zo2david didn’t make it FUCK.”
David Zablidowsky’s brother Paul wrote on Facebook:
As you can all imagine, my family and I are devastated by the horrific news of David’s passing. A piece of our hearts has been taken from us today and we are figuring out how to deal with this as a family. Please give us time and space to mourn and we will keep you posted when we can. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.
David Zablidowsky also played bass for ZO2 and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
David and Paul Zablidowsky also formed the Rock Asylum Foundation, which aimed to teach elementary school students various subjects through live and recorded music; written seriously rather than as kiddie music.
No reports at press time indicate how this will impact Adrenaline Mob’s current tour. The band has issued no statements. However, similar incidents in the past have postponed or cancelled remaining tour dates.
This accident has a dark similarity with other bus crashes in which famous metal bass players have died. Atheist bassist Roger Patterson died on February 12, 1991 in a bus crash at the age of 22. Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was 24 when he died in his sleep when the band’s bus went off the road in Sweden on September 27, 1986.
The writers, editors, and staff of It Djents extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to David Zablidowsky’s family and friends, and to Adrenaline Mob and their staff at this time of loss. We also wish the survivors a speedy recovery from their injuries.
