NEWS: Dream Theater Announce North American Dates For “Images, Words & Beyond” Tour

Progressive metal’s leading band Dream Theater have announced the North American dates for their ‘Images, Words & Beyond’ tour, starting in October. In celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 1992 breakout album Images And Words, the band will play all the songs from that album, as well as the 23 minute title track of their 1995 A Change of Seasons EP. Their billing it as ‘An Evening With…’ tour means Dream Theater will bring no opening band.

Dream Theater has already completed European dates and has a number of dates in Asia and Australia lined up. In a post on Dream Theater’s Facebook page, guitarist John Petrucci stated:

We are so psyched to bring our Images, Words & Beyond tour to North America this Fall! It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 25 years since Images was released! We’ve been having a blast playing those songs each night, and sharing memories and stories from our time in the studio back in 1992. We know that this is such an important album to so many of our fans, both old and new, so we plan on making this a really special night by playing I&W in its entirety as well as breaking out some rare material, and a few of our latest tunes, in order to make this landmark evening compete.

Their second album, Images And Words, established Dream Theater in the metal scene, landing them their only radio hit in the form of opening track “Pull Me Under.” Images And Words also marked the debut of singer James LaBrie with the band. Rolling Stone magazine named it one of the top 100 metal albums of all time.

Previously, Dream Theater have celebrated other ‘landmark’ album anniversaries as part of other ‘An Evening With…’ tours. Their outing in support of their 2013 self-titled album had them play the latter half of 1994’s Awake and several songs from 1999’s Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory (a previous subject of a A Scene In Retrospect article on It Djents).
