Today is a wonderful day, everybody! How I know that you ask? Well, it might just be for the fact that grunge legends Alice In Chains have unveiled a brand new single today, something I know many of y’all were anticipating as anxiously as I’ve been ever since they’ve hinted at new material a while ago! It’s been a good while since their last studio effort The Devil Put Dinousaur Here dropped (almost five years as of today, to be exact), so it’s good to see that they’re still at it.
Now, let’s get to the part we’ve all been waiting for, shall we? Without further ado, please take a listen to “The One You Know” below:
“The One You Know”
Holy smokes, that guitar tone! Jerry Cantrell has been one of the most recognisable guitarists in the game ever since Alice In Chains emerged onto the music scene, and he hasn’t lost any of his mojo in all these years. The main riff is a veritable stomper, and the trademark vocal interplay between Cantrell and William DuVall is just as effective as ever, especially in the catchy chorus. “The One You Know” also boasts a nice guitar solo, but I mean what else is new; that’s another strength of Cantrell and AIC in general. Overall, this track is rather representative of the band’s softer and more melodic side, so I’m interested in seeing what they can bring to the table in puncto heaviness with their as of yet untitled sixth full-length album.
The accompanying music video isn’t all that spectacular in comparison to the actual music. It features shots of the band performing their new single, interspersed with narrative scenes depicting what I believe to be representations of the song’s lyrical content. Anyway, you should definitely keep an eye on Alice In Chains‘s social media presence (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram), as I’m sure that it won’t be long now until we get a title and release date for their upcoming record.
