NEWS: Anathema Release New Song And Announce Tour With Alcest

This might be an interesting tour for our European fellas! UK progressive rock band Anathema is teaming up with French blackgaze pioneers Alcest for a long run later this year! A pretty long run that covers a lot of places, to be exact. Originating from The Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, Anathema are reportedly coming up with a new record soon; The Optimist is scheduled for June 9th via Kscope. You know what that means? New Anathema songs on said tour!

Springfield isn’t only the city where The Simpsons live, it is also the name of the brand new single by Anathema, which delivers a very relaxed mood with smooth keys and a soft, ambient post-rock-ish sound. As stated in the video’s discription The Optimist might be ‘some of the darkest, most challenging and unexpected music the sextet have put their name to.’ In case it sounds a little contrary to the record’s name, here is what guitarist Daniel Cavanagh has to say about that song:

‘Here we present the song ‘Springfield’, it’s actually the song that closed our unforgettable Wembley gig with Opeth and it seemed to be a track that just fell into place without much effort. It seemed to do itself. The song forms part of a narrative that runs through The Optimist album, it’s a narrative that begins where A Fine Day To Exit left off. The album is a journey. The songs are ambiguous. There is no right or wrong way to take them. Make of them what you will.’
