UK based tech/math metallers The Arusha Accord have been building anticipation for new material, especially considering that it’s been approximately eight years since their first and only record, The Echo Verses, came out. About a year and a half ago, the group’s Facebook page began to show signs of activity as the group announced they were writing new material. They also announced their return to the live stage, coming June 30. As more details emerged, it was noted that the group was working with George Lever and Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood (Periphery), the latter of whom has handled production for acts from SikTh to Animals As Leaders and Devin Townsend Project. Finally, the group has released their first new song in years, “Blackened Heart”.
The song starts as furious and raw as ever, but is bolstered instead of sterilized by modern production. The song runs from strength to strength, with frenetic guitars building into an anthemic closing refrain. Fans of SikTh, Destrage and The Dillinger Escape Plan will likely enjoy this. If the new track is indicative of the quality we can expect from a new The Arusha Accord release, we may be looking at an Album of The Year contender.
