NEWS: Chon Part Ways With Drew Pelisek

It’s a sad day for Chon fans. The band has recently announced on social media the departure of bassist Drew Pelisek. They have not given an explanation for it but the impression is that everything between the band and Drew is alright.

Chon released the following statement on Facebook:

Hey guys, we've parted ways with our bassist Drew. He'll always be the homie and it's all still good vibes between us…

Posted by CHON on Sunday, November 8, 2015

Drew himself shared the news on Instragram as you can see below:

It’s always sad to see a member from such a great band leave. He will be missed but hopefully good things will come from this. We at It Djents wish Drew the best for him and his future projects and endeavours.

In the next few days the band will probably announce a replacement for their next tour dates. They are set to perform on New Years Eve in Maryland, USA with Papadosio and then tour Australia with Between the Buried and Me. We will keep you updated.

If he was kicked out, i could see the reason. Dude did none of the bass tracking on Grow and just doesnt seem like his skill level is up to par with the rest of the members

Pretty agree, even if I don’t think Chon need a more “technical” bass player, but since Grow he seemed to be like… not at his place anymore, Mario and Erick might have told about his “non-tracking” on the album because things began to went wrong or smth…
    Sry bout my english

Brandon left VoM because they got in a drunk argument over cleaning the bus.

Maybe it was his excessive “stand up” during shows?
Saw them a few weeks ago and he wouldn’t stop trying to be funny. The rest of the guys would kind of just stare at him. They probably could’ve fit 2 more songs into that set, had he not rambled so much.
Cool dude, but jeez, music bro lol

I don’t care, he was more of a session musician than anything else, and his singing is average. CHON should stay instrumental.

That’s a bummer, Drew was the most approachable member of the band.

That’s a little harsh man. You’re right but I felt like it was a fit with CHON. They can’t do no wrong in my eyes lol.

He actually did that at our set as well. So that wouldnt surprise me. The band probably got sick of it. Thats the second bass player ive seen live with them ha

Yeah Chon as a band is music before ANYTHING. They’re real intense dudes. It’s good to have a member of the band to offset that intensity, but he would just go on and on. Me and my buddy felt cheated when they finished their set.
    It’s unfortunate.

On his post he said it wasn’t up to him to leave the band and seemed pretty bummed, so I feel like it’s not on good terms.

  26. Shane Trowbridge

    9 November, 2015 at 12:37 am

He said in the comments of his Instagram post that it wasn’t his decision. I’m pretty sure he got kicked out. My guess is that Drew wanted to write his own bass lines for the new material but Mario and Erick wouldn’t let him, that’s my guess, and an opinion. I could be wrong and probably am but Mario and Erick wrote all the bass lines for the full length and the EPs so it makes sense. Sad to see him go, he was a great energy live and he was very nice when I met him. It’s a great loss for the band.

I know a lot of these guys personally grew up with them went to school watched them become a band watched Mario play guitar riffs on the streets of Sd
They kicked him out for music reasons not because he wanted to leave. He’s super bummed and not happy with the decision. Chon is being told what to do by the label. Aka same reason they always kick people from bands cause the label doesn’t like how much they talk or whatever

None of you guys probably grew up in San Diego lel.. These guys are great. Were in various bands throughout the years and left them to continue working on Chon. Used to play shows with locals, and now play with Animals and Leaders and other prog bands. They’re a unique twist that takes you away from all the hype of breakdowns and what not. Its refreshing to hear music that carries modern patterns and complexion whilst creating their own style.

  51. Derek Garcia

    9 November, 2015 at 3:08 am

Eh his bass tones sounded kind of shitty anyways, may be a nice guy and everything but I feel like they can find better to fit their music, always thought they lacked in the bass department.

  52. Jeffrey Fisher

    9 November, 2015 at 3:25 am

Being pretty close to the band, I’d say it had nothing to do with the record label lol. Drew lived hours away from the rest of the guys, didn’t do any of the bass tracking on the new album, just different personalities. It’ll allow CHON to have someone who suits their liking more and Drew can move on able to express himself more freely

  53. Jeffrey Fisher

    9 November, 2015 at 3:28 am

So much speculation that’s nowhere on the right track lol, I’ve known about this for a while

They need a legit bass player, good front man but the band could be so much better, I think it’s a good move

  60. Lee Rhoads

    9 November, 2015 at 5:07 am

Troy Tramblie that’s my thought exactly. Mario has this project running, but I would like to see what he has lined up.

  61. Lee Rhoads

    9 November, 2015 at 5:11 am

Ian Scattareggia in my opinion, this is one of the best bands out there. They focus on music theory and everyone contributes to the sound. I believe the bass could be better, but that’s not the focus of their sound. He plays exactly what he needs to.

  62. Chris Martin

There an example of a label doing this before? Perhaps sumerian specifically?

  75. Mike Caramazza

I love Chon, they have such an original sound. However after seeing them live, I thought Drew was kind of Arrogant, and seemed heavily Emo. Before starting their set, Drew shouted at the Colorado fans to put the marijuana away and referred to it as crap, and threatened to end the show early. On the tracks Drew does vocals for, its just whiny and sounds horrible. I wish Chon would stay instrumental! Parting ways with Drew and that stinky Emo crap is the best thing they could have done. Now the true progressive within Chon can flow with no interruptions.

Before starting their set, Drew did a lot of talking, and shouted at the Colorado fans to put the marijuana away and referred to it as crap, and even threatened to end their set early because of it.
