NEWS: The Faceless Release “Black Star” & Join The Summer Slaughter Tour

For a band that has not released an album in half a decade (or any new music in two years), progressive death metallers The Faceless have been the subject of much media attention lately. Their abandonment of two recent Australian and European tours has been met with a mix of confusion, conflicting perspectives and a fair amount of disappointment from fans, promoters and supporting bands. Such events have almost eclipsed earlier hints at a new The Faceless album.

Now, in a somewhat surprising and almost unavoidably controversial move, the Michael Keene-led group have dropped a new song and jumped on The Summer Slaughter Tour, alongside The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, Oceano, Slaughter To Prevail, Origin, Rings of Saturn, Betraying The Martyrs, and Lorna Shore. The song “Black Star” can be streamed here:

Just short of six minutes, the song features a mix of odd-time riffs, Keene’s distinctive singing, atmospheric death metal and proggy interludes alongside lyrical leads. It remains to seen how the song will be received by fans considering other recent events, and whether or not the song will be accompanied by a new album.
