Lovers of everything math, post- and otherwise left-of-center, lend me your ears (or rather eyes), for the first wave of bands announced for the 2018 installment of ArcTanGent festival is upon us! Comprising 15 bands total, it reads like a veritable who-is-who of the scene based around the festival. Not only will visitors have the pleasure of watching the miracle that is Rolo Tomassi (not to mention that they will most likely be playing some songs off their anticipated upcoming album Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It on top of that), they will also get to witness the European début of Giraffes? Giraffes!, among other choice acts. You can find those after the jump.
If you thought it couldn’t get any better after those first two bands, please hold your horses for a little longer; we’re just getting started here! And So I Watch You From Afar will be headlining the main stage on the Thursday night of ArcTanGent‘s sixth edition, their whole set dedicated to their fifth album The Shimmering. Indie rockers Foxing will be playing the festival as well, just like Pianos Become The Teeth (who will appear in support of their upcoming record Wait For Love). And while GUG will finally hit the festival’s stage after being forced to cancel their appearance last year, noise rock band Gallops even went so far as to promise a particularly spectacular set with live remixes and special visuals.
One of the most fun things about this year’s ATG will undoubtedly be the Holy Roar vs. Big Scary Monsters takeover, in which bands from both labels will appear on stages dedicated to the respective imprints. Holy Roar will be represented by the aforementioned Rolo Tomassi, alongside Bossk, Svalbard, and Body Hound, whereas Big Scary Monsters will send Jamie Lenman, Alpha Male Tea Party, Talons, Tangled Hair and Gulfer ‘into the ring’. For statements by the two label’s founders, please follow this link to the original announcement article. You can also find some of the bands’ comments on their appearance at ATG 2018 there. As for the official poster accompanying the wave of announcements, you can find it below.
The ArcTanGent line-up 2018 looks as follows so far:
That’s a pretty amazing set of bands and artist so far, if I do say so myself! You should definitely consider hitting the festival if you have the opportunity. Tickets are available on ArcTanGent‘s website; day tickets for the three days will become available later on as well. Make sure to follow the festival’s Facebook page for future updates.
