Just before dropping their new album Post Self this Friday, November 17, Godflesh share a new track that should have megalomaniacs buzzing. It is called “Be God”, and sounds like a romp through the future promised to us in the opening of the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day. That is to say, it’s apocalyptic and menacing. Take a listen:
This song sounds like scorched metal, fields of death and war machines pulverizing the land. There’s a heavy industrial feel, with atmospheric hums looming in the back of the mix with grinding, sustained guitars and mechanized drums. Vocals are present in the midsection of the track, but they are so heavily processed and toyed with, they sound like screams from another dimension. A quick ticking noise that sounds like a speedy clock can be heard as well, which gives the track a layer of anxiety. All in all, we have a nice, haunting song here.
“Be God” is the second single from Post Self released prior to the album dropping. The first one, titled “Post Self” after the album, is a more traditional industrial metal affair with a more pronounced band presence, which tells us that this new record might have a good amount of variance to it. Are you looking forward to this album? Let us know!
As I mentioned earlier, Post Self comes out this Friday, and can only be pre-ordered digitally through Bandcamp at the time of writing this, since the physicals offered seem to be sold out. For more Godflesh information, follow member Justin Broadrick on his artist page on Facebook.
