Fans of experimental deathcore act Loathe and atmospheric post-hardcore group Holding Absence, listen up! The two bands, labelmates on the relatively new SharpTone Records imprint, have announced the upcoming release of a split EP called This Is As One, with both contributing three tracks to it – two regular ones and one live recording each (at least on the vinyl version, more on that later).
Loathe have wowed not only the It Djents staff with their surprisingly diverse approach to deathcore on their début record The Cold Sun earlier this year (read our review here), showing that you can go many places even within the confines of what is normally seen as a relatively stifling genre creativity-wise. Welsh upstarts Holding Absence on the other hand have released a string of promising singles in 2017, all of them displaying their finely-tuned sense for ambiance as well as the vocal talents of frontman Lucas Woodland. In a nutshell, the timing for the split could not be any better, it coming out on January 16, 2018.
Two singles were released from this joint venture together with the announcement: “White Hot” by Loathe and “Saint Cecilia” by Holding Absence, which you can find above and below respectively. Also, here’s the full tracklist of This Is As One:
- “White Hot” – Loathe
- “Servant & Master” – Loathe
- “It’s Yours” (live)* – Loathe
- “Saint Cecilia” – Holding Absence
- “Everything” – Holding Absence
- “Permanent” (live)* – Holding Absence
*limited to vinyl only
