Master Boot Record, synthesized cypher-metal extraordinaires, are back with a track from their upcoming album! The track is called “DMA 0 DRAM REFRESH” and it’s the opening song from their new album Direct Memory Access, which drops on April 20 via Blood Music. Check the track out right now courtesy of the band’s Facebook page:
Yes, nearly five minutes of defragmentation for your human ears. It’s certainly a wildly melodic affair, but the focus on metal instrumentation leaves the song feeling heavier than a stack of CRT monitors. The chiptune aspects all but completely fall out in the middle of the track, leaving only the grind of the guitars and stamping of the drums before coming back in to liven things up. It’s a nice varied piece, the kind we come to expect from Master Boot Record, but it hints at a slightly different direction.
In case you’re not privy to their new album, Direct Memory Access is slated to be half-instrumental and half with vocals from Öxxö Xööx, who is a vocalist for Igorrr. That alone has me interested. Having such a name attached to an album like this should really give it some spice and intensity that Master Boot Record simply could not conjure on their own. Here’s to hoping the collaboration is as great as it sounds, and here’s to hoping we get a taste of it soon!
