When there is news of Mew, can they be called ‘Mews’? I don’t know, but damn, this is lovely! Danish indie-synth-prog trio Mew just released a new song off their upcoming record! “85 Videos” comes with a psychedelic-tinged video reflecting Visuals‘ artwork. And art is in fact a rather fitting term here; people who are familiar with the band will know that they are awesome at visualizing their songs.
…starts with jungle-esque bongo drums, followed by a very retro-sounding synthpop part. This is in turn followed by the soft voice of singer Jonas Bjerre and the minimalistic electronic verse transisting into a catchy chorus. Imagine a mix of The 1975, Haken and Steven Wilson and you might get an impression how Mew sound on this single. Electronic, catchy and slightly progressive in some parts, such as the bridge between chorus and verse. So, “85 Videos” again shows how diverse their songwriting can be within a single song. Also make sure to read about and listen to the band’s first single (“Carry Me To Safety”) off Visuals here. It sounds quite different and, together with this second single, promises a lot for the upcoming record!
