Spain’s own progressive music festival will be returning this year for its fifth iteration with some rather big names in tow. Dubbed ‘Chapter 5’, the show will be hosted over June 29th and 30th in 2018 in the beautiful city of Barcelona. Previous acts that have taken the ‘Be Prog! My Friend’ stage include Jethro Tull, Devin Townsend, Steven Wilson, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Meshuggah, and a great many more. Bringing in such influential and salient bands in the prog scene over the years, it’s no surprise that it would continue on into 2018 as well. Out of the eight open spots, the first two announced are none other than new supergroup Sons of Apollo, and prog alumni Pain of Salvation.
For those unaware, Sons of Apollo is the newest project from ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and includes some very prominent and prolific musicians in the prog scene. Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs), Derek Sherinian (Black Country Communion, ex-Dream Theater), Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, ex-Journey), and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Art of Anarchy, ex-Guns N’ Roses) round out the group, and their debut album will be available on October 27th. Pain of Salvation needs no introduction if you’re a fan of prog, as the band released their tenth full-length album earlier this year. The show is still a long way off, but it’s never too early to get tickets. With the pedigree of the festival’s previous years, the remaining six bands will be no less impressive, so tickets will surely sell fast.
