Well, this came out of nowhere! Progressive doomsters Pallbearer released a new song, “Dropout”, unto the world today. At just over five minutes it sounds like a track that was left on the cutting room floor from the Heartless sessions. I for one think this is a great thing, and we even placed Heartless on our list of our favorite albums of 2017. “Dropout” is fairly economical, as Brett Campbell’s trademark wail shows up almost immediately on the track, and for a doom song, that’s a rare occurrence! The fuzz is noticeable, but not distracting, and twin leads are showcased between harmonized vocal passages. Give it a listen below!
At this point, I doubt that this song is a teaser for an upcoming EP or LP. However, this is a prolific band who seem to tour endlessly and hit the studio once they tire of performing their current catalog. We’ll keep a sharp eye out for more, but this is more than enough for now. A new Pallbearer track is always something to be thankful for!
