That’s sad news for all of our European and Japanese followers. As stated by the band, Protest The Hero will not be able to perform any of their summer shows. This also includes their 10 year anniversary for Fortress featuring Norma Jean (performing their record Redeemer in full), Loathe and Cyclamen.
As Rody Walker speaks for himself, he posted the following statement through the bands Facebook page:
Dear European and Japanese friends,
You know when you’re hearing from Choady it’s bad news, and this time will be no different. Unfortunately, the rest of the Fortress tour is cancelled. I completely frigged myself on the North American portion of the tour. I assumed it would be like any other tour, a few days off and I’m good to go, however, I was mistaken. I don’t know whether it’s my age or so many years of improperly using my voice, but it’s not snapping back the way it once did. At this point, I’m worried that heading back on tour would result in irreparable damage. So, I’m going back to the basics, I’m going to figure out what I’m doing wrong and learn how to sing properly, all while attempting to record the new album.
This sucks, and I’m very sorry. I hate disappointing people, but I have to put my health first.
No replacement shows & new album
Walker already had some issues on the last tour in North America and was about to cancel all three Toronto shows. As he was about to record vocals for the band’s new full length album he had to realize that his issues didn’t get better. They decided to take a break for him, as it would damage his voice, which in fact is a very respectful decision. That being said we can only hope that we’ll get some more Fortress from Protest The Hero sometime, as they do not plan to redo the anniversary tour. Also the new record might postpone some months and the next tour will focus on said one.
Have a spin of Fortress today instead and check their Facebook page for further updates!
