  52. Cole Millward

I mean seriously, Across the Bed? If you’re gonna write a song about sex, be subtle about it. Use some metaphor for frak’s sake. This is prog, not Hip Hop.

  61. Dan Marriage

    23 August, 2015 at 10:47 pm

Wouldn’t say unlistenable. Love the album still. But lyrically definitely wasn’t great!

  62. Tom Barrett

    23 August, 2015 at 10:47 pm

If this band can get back to focusing entirely on the music, and less about their image, they might be able to return to the djenty greatness that they once were. Ever since they hit it big with Via it seems they care more about marketing themselves than improving on the one that thing that matters the most, the music.

  63. Cole Millward

    23 August, 2015 at 10:50 pm

It’s a personal taste thing. I’m used to more Dream Theater-esque lyrical style. Obviously, to each his own.

  66. Barett Robertson

    24 August, 2015 at 12:10 am

Too bad volumes are too stubborn and full of pride to ever hire a real engineer to mix their albums, so we’re stuck with continuous disappointment every release as we try and manage our way through the god awful guitar tones that this band produces

  67. Haris Haethem Ejupovic

    24 August, 2015 at 1:16 am

    Deftones> volumes&northlane.

  68. Christopher Shain

    24 August, 2015 at 1:20 am

northlane from cali with one less guitar more samples and two vocalist that are so terrible they should quit and make volumes a 3 piece jam band

I’m pretty excited for defeater to drop haha

  76. Kayleigh Williams

    24 August, 2015 at 8:38 am

Cole: This isn’t Prog, though. Volumes does nothing progressive. It’s pretty much metalcore. And straightforward lyrics aren’t necessarily a bad thing. Unless you think we need more bands like Erra and the likes using word salad lyrics more or less.

  77. Kayleigh Williams

    24 August, 2015 at 8:41 am

If that’s god awful guitar tone then you must never have listened to like any early death metal or 90’s thrash.
Besides, it’s about the songs, not the sound, no?

  78. Kayleigh Williams

    24 August, 2015 at 8:42 am

    Volumes, progressive? Lolwut

  79. Kayleigh Williams

    24 August, 2015 at 8:44 am

  80. Barett Robertson

    24 August, 2015 at 10:05 am

    Kayleigh Williams not really
sound is equally as important as composition
and Volumes lacks in both tone and composition to be honest
i mean come on, no one in their right mind could argue that the members of volumes are genuinely talented composers….

  81. Thomas Quinones

    24 August, 2015 at 2:20 pm

if it sounds like no sleep, ill pass

  82. Cole Millward

    24 August, 2015 at 2:48 pm

You’ll have to forgive me, I really didn’t use the best possible example. Volumes has similarities to Meshuggah, in sound and song structure, and while I’ll accept that neither may fully be considered prog (though both do, in fact, have some progressive elements), I have always enjoyed Meshuggah’s use of imagery to get their point across, rather than the oversimplified style of Volumes latest release. It just sort of sounds like a troubled high schooler wrote the lyrics. When I heard the particular lyric, “When you cum it gets me high” in Across the Bed, I just turned the whole thing off. I think straightforward is one thing. This… This is just sort of feels insulting to our intelligence. I’ll say once again though, to each his own.
